Xinhua, December 31, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least nine people were killed and 15 others injured in a major road mishap in the northern Indian state of Punjab in the wee hours of Thursday, a senior police official said.

"The mishap happened when a private bus rammed into a homemade motorised cart from behind at Mehta village, some 15 km from the town of Amritsar. The victims were all occupants of the cart," he said, on condition of anonymity.

While nine people were killed on the spot due to the impact of the accident, those injured have been admitted to a local hospital where the condition of at least two are said to be serious, the official said, adding all victims were laborers.

A probe has been ordered into the incident, which sent shockwaves across the town, he said. Endit
