India grants citizenship to 44-year-old Pakistani singer

Xinhua, December 31, 2015 Adjust font size:

India on Thursday granted citizenship to noted 44-year-old Pakistani singer Adnan Sami, a senior official said.

The Lahore-born singer, who was earlier given an indefinite visa to stay in this country, will be an Indian citizen with effect from January 1, he said on condition of anonymity.

Sami's last request for Indian citizenship was rejected two years ago by the then Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government.

The singer, who shot to fame for his smash hits songs in Bollywood movies, came to India in 2001 and his visa has been extended from time to time by the Indian government. Endit
