Obama to attend trade show in Germany in April

Xinhua, December 31, 2015 Adjust font size:

U.S. President Barack Obama will travel to Germany in late April to participate in the Hannover Messe, the world's largest trade show for industrial technology, the White House said Wednesday.

Obama's participation -- the first for a sitting U.S. President -- presents a "unique opportunity to showcase American innovation and ingenuity and to highlight the United States as a prime investment destination," White House spokesman Josh Earnest said in a statement.

Founded in 1947, the Hannover Messe attracts approximately 6,500 exhibitors and 200,000 visitors from across the globe each year.

Obama will meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel in what will be his fifth trip to Germany, Earnest said, adding that the president will also address efforts to advance negotiations on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership.

Obama's visit "underscores the enduring political and economic ties between Americans and Germans and highlights the U.S. commitment to trade and investment as drivers of job creation and economic growth on both sides of the Atlantic," Earnest said. Endit
