2nd LD: Twin bombings kills 6, wound 36 in Syria's Homs

Xinhua, December 28, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least six people were killed and 36 others wounded on Monday when two car bombs tore through a pro-government district in Syria's central city of Homs, state news agency SANA reported.

The bombings rocked the main square in the al-Zahra' neighborhood in Homs, said SANA, citing Homs governor Talal Barazi.

Barazi said the death toll is preliminary and could rise due to the large number of critically wounded people.

Some activists' news pages have placed the death toll at more than 30 people, an account which could not be verified so far.

Al-Zahra' is a district inhabited by adherents of the Alawite minority, an offshoot of Shiite Islam to which the ruling elite in Syria belongs.

Earlier this month, more than 20 people were killed and tens of others wounded when a bombing rocked the same neighborhood. The Islamic State group claimed responsibility. Endit
