1st LD: Twin bombings hit pro-gov't district in Syria's Homs, leaving causalities

Xinhua, December 28, 2015 Adjust font size:

Two car bombs tore through a pro-government district in Syria's central city of Homs on Monday, leaving unknown causalities, state news agency SANA reported.

The bombings rocked the main square in the al-Zahra' neighborhood in Homs, said SANA, spelling no further details.

Pro-government Sham FM radio said the bombings left big numbers of people killed and wounded, but stopped short of giving a death toll.

Some activists' news pages have placed the death toll at more than 30 people, an account which could not be verified so far.

Al-Zahra' is a district inhabited by adherents of the Alawite minority, an offshoot of Shiite Islam to which the ruling elite in Syria belongs.

Earlier this month, more than 20 people were killed and tens of others wounded when a bombing rocked the same neighborhood. The Islamic State (IS) group claimed responsibility. Endit
