11 million Beijing residents benefit from south-north water

A total of 870 million cubic meters of water from the south-to-north water diversion project have been delivered to Beijing as of Sunday, one year after the project went on-stream, municipal authorities announced on Sunday.

The water has met the needs of more than 11 million people in the capital, according to Sun Guosheng, head of the project's Beijing office.

Beijing water department said compared with the same period last year, consumption of the city's surface water has decreased by 275 million cubic meters from January to November, and several reservoirs in the city have raised storage levels by a total of 120 million cubic meters since the start of the project.
