Vietnamese communist party to hold 12th national congress in Jan. 2016

The 12th national congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) will be convened on Jan. 20-28, 2016, according to the 11th CPV Central Committee (CPVCC) at a meeting which closed Monday in Vietnam's capital Hanoi.

The 12th national party congress will produce a new Politburo and Secretariat of the CPVCC, which will pave way for the election of the country's new leadership.

During the 13th plenary session of the 11th CPVCC opened on Dec. 14 in Hanoi, participants discussed and approved a list of current members of the 11th CPVCC who are within age criteria and those as "special" case for re-election.

Participants also voted on the nomination of qualified personnel who meet the age criteria to be elected for the Politburo and Secretariat in the 2016-2021 tenure.

Members of the 11th CPVCC also nominated qualified members of the 11th CPVCC's Politburo, Secretariat who meet the age criteria to be candidates for four positions of CPVCC General Secretary, State President, Prime Minister and Chairman of National Assembly.

Addressing the closing ceremony of the 13th plenary session on Monday, the 11th CPVCC General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said the meeting was successful, basically fulfilling important preparation tasks for the 12th national party congress. Enditem
