India welcomes Nepalese gov't decision to amend new constitution

Indian government Monday welcomed the decision by Nepalese government to amend the new constitution to address demands of Madhesis regarding proportional representation and constituency delimitation.

"Government of India welcomes these developments as positive steps that help create the basis for a resolution of the current impasse in Nepal," the external affairs ministry here said.

"We urge all Nepali political forces to now demonstrate necessary maturity, flexibility to find a satisfactory solution to the Constitutional issues through constructive dialogue in an agreed timeframe," the ministry said in a statement.

Nepal government took the decision at an emergency cabinet meeting Sunday night. Endit
