As many as 11,600 people have already applied for a job at the Jaguar Land Rover factory near Nitra via a questionnaire drawn up by the Slovak Labor, Social Affairs and the Family Center. Announced the center's general director Marian Valentovic on Monday.
According to Valentovic the number of registered people confirms that there is a sufficient workforce and people willing to work in Slovakia. Those applying for jobs aren't necessarily unemployed, however. At least some are seeking a better paid job.
The appropriate candidates for Jaguar Land Rover will be chosen next year. Preparations and the placement of people in relevant requalification courses will be carried out as well.
"The first graduates of the requalification course will start working in 2017. We expect that 300-400 people will need to be sent directly to an existing factory in England. This will form the foundation of the new factory's management, which will in turn train other employees who will start producing in Nitra as of 2018," stated Valentovic.
Jaguar Land Rover, a subsidiary of Indian carmaker Tata Motors, has chosen Nitra as the location for a new plant with a manufacturing capacity of 300,000 cars a year.
It's expected that the construction work could begin next year, with operations at the 200-300-hectare greenfield site to be launched in 2018 or 2019.
The choice of Slovakia was preceded by a thorough analysis of various locations in Europe, the United States and Mexico. A strong supply network and good logistical infrastructure were seen as being in Slovakia's favor. Endit
