Singapore Airlines bans hoverboards on all flights

Singapore Airlines (SIA) on Monday has banned hoverboards, or self-balancing electric scooters on all its flights for safety reasons, the company said in a statement.

Passengers are not allowed to carry hoverboards either in carry-on or checked-in luggage, according to the new regulation. Passengers are also not allowed to carry or check in any lithium batteries with watt hours more than 160 or a lithium content of more than 8 g, which includes electric segways and electric bicycles.

Budget airline Tiger Airways, which is a SIA subsidiary, also followed suit. According to the Strait Times, Tiger Airways banned hoverboards, uniwheels and electric scooters on its flights regardless of the watt-hour rating of the lithium batteries in these devices.

SIA and Tiger Airways are not the first to ban such equipments. Other major airlines such as British Airways, Virgin America, Alaska Airlines, JetBlue, Delta, as well as Malaysia Airlines have also published ban on such devices. Enditem
