Obama visits San Bernardino shooting victims' families

Xinhua, December 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

U.S. President Barack Obama landed in San Bernardino, California, on Friday evening to meet privately with families of victims killed in the worst terror attack in the United States since Sept. 11, 2001.

Stopping in San Bernardino on the way to Honolulu, Hawaii, for a scheduled two-week Christmas vacation, Obama and his wife Michelle Obama met with victims' families and first responders to the mass shooting in a high school after briefly meeting with local officials, local media reported.

On Dec. 2, two shooting suspects, Syed Rizwan Farook and his wife Tashfeen Malik, opened fire on a holiday gathering at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino with long rifles, killing 14 people and injuring 21 others.

The couple died in a shootout with police hours later. Both killers were believed to have been radicalized before the massacre.

Obama's visit comes one day after a neighbor and friend of one of the San Bernardino shooters was arrested for allegedly providing material support to terrorists. Endi
