1st LD Writethru: UN Security Council set to begin meeting on Syria Friday afternoon

Xinhua, December 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

The UN Security Council is scheduled to begin a meeting on a draft resolution on Syria at 4 p.m. ET (2100 GMT) Friday, UN officials told reporters here.

The council meeting was originally slated to kick off at 3 p.m. (2000 GMT) at the UN Headquarters in New York Friday.

The meeting came following an agreement by the five permanent council members on a draft resolution to be presented to the 15-nation council on Syria, diplomats said here.

Earlier Friday, a new round of Syria international talks started at a hotel in New York City in a bid to promote the efforts for a political solution to the Syrian crisis, which broke out in March 2011. Endite
