A Zambian soccer referee has expressed pleasure over his nomination as one of the candidates for this year's referee of the year, the Times of Zambia reported on Wednesday.

Janny Sikazwe is the only Zambian shortlisted for the 2015 awards alongside Alioum Neant of Cameroon, Aric Arnaud Otogo-Castane (Gabon), Ghead Zaglol Grisha (Egypt), and last year's winner Bakary Papa Gasama of Gambia.

"This is a great achievement and I thank God for having made the shortlist. I am confident that it is our time as Zambians to get the Referee-of-the-Year award. I feel so happy and I think it is high time Zambian referees were recognized," he is quoted saying by the paper.

The referee, who has officiated at the Africa Cup of Nations as well as various continental championships, said the nomination has motivated him to aim for greater things in life.

The winner will be announced on January 7, 2016 at an awards gala in Abuja, Nigeria. Endit
