United Airlines announced the launch of direct flight between Xi'an in northwest China's Shaanxi Province and San Francisco in the United States on Wednesday.

The service will operate every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday using a Boeing 787 from May 10 to Oct. 29, 2016, according to Walter Dias, United Airlines managing director for Greater China and Korea.

The outbound flight will depart from Xi'an at 9:30 a.m. Beijing time and arrive in San Francisco at 6:35 a.m. (local time). The return flight will depart from San Francisco at 1:25 p.m. (local time) and land in Xi'an at 5:30 p.m. Beijing time.

The airline will also offer mandarin service and Chinese food for Chinese passengers, according to Dias.

"We are very excited about the opening of the new route," said Dias, "it will offer more opportunities for Chinese visitors to reach more destinations in the U.S. via San Francisco." Endi
