India may soon get chief of defense staff

India on Wednesday indicated that it could soon create a separate post of the long-awaited chief of defense staff.

Indian Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar said that the post of the chief of defense staff "should be" a reality, as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's defense reforms.

He added "We wear different colors, but we serve the same cause and bear the same flag. Jointness at the top is a need that is long overdue."

The post was envisaged by a Group of Ministers in 2001. Endit
