Burkina Faso's constitutional council confirms Christian Kabore as president elect

Burkina Faso's Constitutional Council on Tuesday confirmed Roch Marc Christian Kabore as the winner of the presidential election that held on November 29 in the west African country.
According to the final results, the transitional institution declared Mr. Kabore gained 1.67 million votes cast, representing 53.46 percent of the ballot.
He won the election competition beating 13 other candidates of which his main challenger Zephirin Diabre who gained 924,879 votes cast, about 29.62 percent of the ballot.
The final results are slightly different from the provisional published days earlier by the National independent electoral commission (CENI).
The CENI credited Mr. Kabore with 53.49 percent of the ballot against 29.65 percent for his challenger Zephirin Diabre.
As for the participation rate, it stands at 59.87 percent against 60 percent published days earlier by the CENI.
Over 5.5 million people were enrolled for the presidential and general elections out of which 3.3 million voters.
The Constitutional Council declared to have registered 180,419 invalidated ballots and 3.12 million votes cast.
Due to several insufficiencies, the council invalidated the results of 83 polling stations but declared the electoral process as fair.
According to sources close to the presidency, the inauguration ceremony of the new president of Burkina Faso is expected to hold on Dec. 29, 2015. Endit
