More than half of Belgians want no arrival of migrants: survey

Xinhua, December 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

More than half of Belgians felt "negative" or "very negative" regarding the arrival of migrants in their country, according to the results of the survey La Libre/RTBF/Dedicated published Tuesday.

Some 72 percent of respondents say that there are too many refugees in Belgium and 39 percent want even a total cessation of refugee reception by Belgium, the survey showed.

According to the General Commission for Refugees and Stateless Persons (CGRA) of Belgium, the average number of arrivals of refugees in the country is 4,840 per month.

Belgian citizens have the fear of high cost of such refugees hosting in Belgium, the newspaper La Libre Belgique reported.

Belgium does not have the "adequate" financial means to accommodate the tens of thousands of migrants who crowd into this country since the beginning of the migration crisis, the newspaper said.

Citizens also fear the eventual disappearance of their culture after the arrival of the refugees and an increase in crimes committed by the latter, it added. Enditem
