Denmark's Superliga football club FC Nordsjaelland has been sold to the British investors, the club announced Tuesday.

Allan K. Pedersen, FC Nordsjaelland's chairman and owner, told a press conference that he had on Tuesday morning sold 97.41 percent of his shares in the club to a British consortium led by Tom Vernon.

"I believe that the time has come to take the next step in FC Nordsjaelland's history, namely next step up the ladder," said Pedersen. "Therefore this will be the right thing for the club with the new ownership headed by Tom Vernon."

"FC Nordsjaelland has always been in my heart, and I want the best for FC Nordsjaelland and our fantastic dedicated employees. That is exactly why I also think that Tom can lead the club forward in cooperation with the skillful organization," Pedersen added.

At the same time, Pedersen announced his resignation as chairman of the club, but instead he will stay on the Board as vice chairman.

Founded in 1991, FC Nordsjaelland is a professional Danish football team from the North Zealand town of Farum. It won its very first trophy the Danish Cup in 2010 and successfully defended it in 2011.

The club is known for focusing on youth and talent development, and their playing style is often referred to as aggressive and attacking-minded football. Endit
