MOSCOW -- Russian President Vladimir Putin and British Prime Minister David Cameron on Wednesday discussed a political settlement of the Syria crisis and the anti-terror fight.

Putin and Cameron, in a phone call, agreed that both countries have similar approaches toward the threat of Daesh, referring to the Islamic State group, and other terrorist groups operating in the Middle East region. (Russia-UK-Syria Crisis)

UNITED NATIONS -- More than 9,000 people have died in armed conflict in Ukraine since mid-April last year, the United Nations reported Wednesday.

The absence of the rule of law and legitimate authorities in territories controlled by armed groups, coupled with continuing presence of foreign fighters and sophisticated weaponry, have left people in hardship and with no real protection and no access to redress and justice, the report said. WASHINGTON -- Director of U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation James Comey said Wednesday both shooters of San Bernardino carnage were radicalized long before they started online dating.

"They were actually radicalized before they started ... dating each other online, and as early as the end of 2013, they were talking to each other about jihad and martyrdom before they became engaged," said Comey here at a congressional hearing. (US-California Shooting)

RIYADH -- The first day of the Saudi-hosted Syrian opposition talks ended on Wednesday, without agreeing on key issues, including the future of President Bashar al-Assad in a transitional period, Al Arabiya News reported.
