Van Gaal criticizes Schweinsteiger after Manchester United out of Champions League

Louis Van Gaal criticized Bastian Schweinsteiger after Manchester United failed to survive the group stage of the UEFA Champions League with the 3-2 loss to Wolfsburg on Tuesday night.

"I took him off and I don't take players off for nothing. He wants to play at he highest level, but I can't say he was the Schweinsteiger I saw during my Bayern Munich days," said Van Gaal after the duel.

Schweinsteiger was taken off in the 69th minute in the game.

"I'm sure he will show his strengths this season," added Van Gaal.

The 31-year-old German midfielder left for Old Trafford before the start of the season. Van Gaal coached Bayern Munich during 2009-2011 in which they started personal friendship.  Endi
