22 parties, 1 coalition to run in general election in Slovakia on March 5

A total of 23 parties, movements and coalitions will run in the parliamentary election on March 5, 2016, confirmed director of the electoral commission, Eva Chmelova, after Sunday's deadline for submitting slates.

Along with the slate, political entities had to pay a 17,000- euro (18,530 U.S. dollars) deposit. The commission will examine the slates and decide whether to register them by Dec. 26.

The official campaign for the parliamentary election is already under way, and parties are permitted to spend up to 3 million euros (3.3 million U.S. dollars) on their campaigns. More than 4.4 million Slovak citizens are eligible to vote in the election. Endit
