Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon on Monday called on participating countries at the 2015 UN Climate Change Conference (COP21) to emulate China's example in addressing climate issues together with other countries.
According to Ban, the China-U.S. joint statement on climate change, which outlined the two countries' goals and efforts to tackle climate change in the next 15 years, was a "turning point."
The China-France joint statement on climate change issued at the beginning of French President Francois Hollande's visit to China at the beginning of November is also "highly commendable," he added.
"When we address many difficult issues, unresolved issued like differentiation and ambition levels, then this Sino-American and Sino-French statements can be used and emulated in a more harmonious and agreeable way," Ban said, calling on other member countries to "really emulate this Chinese example."
In a press conference in the conference venue of Le Bourget, the UN Secretary General expressed his "deep appreciation and commend the vision and commitment of Chinese leadership, starting from President Xi Jinping, and all the negotiators and ministers."
For him, China's commitment to address its own environmental issues and contributions to these ongoing negotiations on climate change is highly commendable.
"Chinese delegation members are very much committed to working closely with other member states," he added. Endit
