Xinhua, December 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

Organizers for Tokyo Olympics announced they had received 14,599 applications for Tokyo 2020 Emblem Design Competition before Monday's deadline.

The emblem selection committee plans to cut the list to between 100 and 200 by the end of December and will narrow the list down by Jan. 9

The new logo will be unveiled next spring, and the winner will receive a 1-million-yen prize (about 8,000 U.S. dollars) and an invitation to the Olympics' opening ceremony.

Ryohei Miyata, chairman of the selection committee said that they are thrilled to see so many people take part in this emblem competition.

The emblem selected in July and designed by Kenjiro Sano was scrapped in September due to the plagiarism accusations.  Endi
