Minister to push New Zealand as climate change technology test-bed

Xinhua, December 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

New Zealand will be promoting its expertise in renewable energies as the Paris Climate Change Conference moves towards agreement, Associate Climate Change Issues Minister Simon Bridges said Friday.

"For the first time leaders will seek to agree a new binding climate change agreement that includes contributions from all major emitting countries," said Bridges, who will leave Saturday to participate in the conference.

"Ensuring maximum participation will be essential for putting the world on a path to keeping global temperature rise below 2 degrees (centigrade)," he said in a statement.

Bridges, who is also Energy and Resources Minister and Transport Minister, said he would take every opportunity to push New Zealand's interests in promoting its renewable advantage and the country as a technology test-bed.

"I want New Zealand to be positioned to make the most of emerging transport and energy technologies, and promote our renewables expertise and experience, in the transition to a low-carbon global economy," he said. Endit
