India among world's fast growing economies: Modi

Xinhua, December 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday that India was still seen as one of the fastest growing economies in the world while the global economy was slowing down.

"All this when the world economy is slowing down. Going by statistics, we can say that India is moving at a steady pace towards a shining future," Modi said at a media conclave in Delhi.

However, he stressed that the states must work hand in hand with the central government to keep the pace of growth going.

"States have the most important role in India's progress and for that the central government and states must work together in improving the ease of doing business in India," Modi said.

He also allayed fears over a possible stalemate in the parliament, given that opposition parties, mainly the Congress, have been disrupting proceedings, leading to complete washout of many sessions.

"The parliament is working now. This is a good news. The credit does not go to Prime Minister Modi but to all the parties," he said.

A number of the Indian government's reforms bills is pending for the parliament's approval, but the opposition parties' disruptions have been derailing Modi's development agenda. Enditem
