Burkina Faso Constitutional Council on Tuesday said that it has fifteen days to publish the final results of the presidential election held on Nov. 29 in the West African country.
The parliament of transition further recalled that appeals should be lodged within the seven days following the publication of the provisional results, pursuant to article 98 of the electoral code.
As for now, none of the defeated presidential candidates contested the provisional results published late Monday.
Roch Marc Christian Kabore, candidate of the People's Movement for Progress (MPP), won the presidential election among fourteen candidates in competition.
He recorded 53.49 percent of the ballots, according to provisional results disclosed by the National independent electoral commission (CENI).
The main challenger Zephirin Diabre came second with 29.65 percent. He went to the MPP headquarters and congratulated the winner, shortly before the end of ballots counting.
"I acknowledged this and took on myself to offer my heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Roch Marc Christian Kabore, as it is clear that he will be the new president of Burkina Faso", Diabre said.
The presidential election was organized following President Blaise Compaore's resignation in October 2014 amid popular insurrection against his attempt to stand for a new term after 27 years in power.
It is coupled with general elections. They were expected to end a one year transition regime, restore democratic order and provide the West African country with new legitimate authorities. Enditem
