Ireland sees slowest growth in manufacturing in 21 months

Xinhua, December 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

Ireland's manufacturing sector in November witnessed the slowest pace of growth in 21 months, according to a survey published on Tuesday.

The monthly manufacturing purchasing managers' index (PMI), compiled by financial group Investec, was slightly lower than October's 53.6, and came in at 53.3.

"While the latest Investec manufacturing PMI report shows a further solid strengthening of business conditions in the Irish manufacturing sector in November, the pace of growth has moderated to its weakest in 21 months," said Philip O'Sullivan, chief economist at Investec Ireland.

"For a 29th successive month, Irish manufacturing companies reported expansion in new orders albeit at a slightly softer pace than had been recorded in October," he said.

The manufacturing PMI is based on data compiled from monthly replies to questionnaires sent to purchasing executives of around 285 industrial companies.
