Carvajal injury a further setback for Real Madrid

Xinhua, December 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

Real Madrid coach Rafael Benitez suffered another injury blow to his side on Tuesday when it was confirmed that right back Dani Carvajal will be out of action for a month after suffering a muscle problem in his left leg.

Carvajal's injury comes on top of those suffered by Sergio Ramos (shoulder), Rafael Varene (muscle) and Marcelo (muscle) and leaves Benitez with the bare bones for his side's forthcoming matches.

Real Madrid travel to face Cadiz in the King's Cup knockout tournament on Wednesday and will do so presumably with Nacho Fernandez and Pepe as central defenders with Danilo playing at right back and veteran Alvaro Arbeloa on the left.

These are the only four fit defenders in the Real Madrid squad, which perhaps once again serves to highlight the imbalances in the squad assembled by president Florentino Perez, who failed to sign cover at left back over the summer, despite allowing Fabio Coentrao to join Monaco.

With just three injuries Benitez is not down to the bare bones and will presumably call up a young player from Real Madrid's B-team, which is currently in the third tier of the Spanish league. Endit
