Ghana's Foreign Minister Hanna Serwaa Tetteh says Africa is looking forward to participating fully in the upcoming Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Johannesburg, South Africa scheduled for Dec. 4-5.
She said African nations would partake in the event to understand what their Chinese counterpart think will be most useful collaboration with Africa and to see how Africans can also fit inside that arrangement.
"I think it is going to be important for us in this meeting to focus on developing a relationship where both sides feel that the relationship is getting stronger because everybody has a positive incentive for being part of that process," Tetteh said in a recent interview with Xinhua.
This year marks the 15th anniversary of FOCAC, with a summit of the forum to take place in Africa for the first time.
Chinese President Xi Jinping and African heads of state and government, representatives from the African Union and other regional organizations will attend the event.
The theme for the FOCAC Summit is "Africa-China Progressing Together: Win-Win Cooperation for Common Development"and it is believed that it will be a new milestone of China-Africa relationship.
The leaders of China and African countries will discuss major plans for China-Africa cooperation and show the power of developing countries' solidarity.
Apart from the Summit, the state leaders will attend a high-level dialogue meeting with representatives from business communities.
Chinese Ambassador to Ghana Sun Baohong envisages that the Summit will give impetus to the transformation and upgrading of China-Africa cooperation.
She said China would use this opportunity to put forward a series of new proposals to strengthen win-win cooperation with Africa in five priority areas.
These are industrialization, agricultural modernization, public health, cultural and people-to-people exchanges as well as peace and security.
"Moreover, China will support Africa to establish an independent and sustainable industrial system, a food security and guarantee system, as well as a public health prevention and control system, fueling Africa's development," she told the business community at a China-Ghana economic and trade forum in Kumasi, Ghana's second largest commercial city.
The summit is expected to adopt a declaration and action plan outlining measures aimed at consolidating China-Africa relations. Enditem
