Indian defense minister quashes reports of his retirement from politics

Xinhua, November 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

Indian Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar Monday quashed media reports about his retirement from politics.

He took to micro-blogging site Twitter and said he will return to the western state of Goa only after finishing his "bigger responsibilities" in the central government.

"My correct statement -- At the age of 60, normally people think of retirement and perhaps I would have also," the defense minister tweeted.

He added: "But I had to take bigger responsibilities at Centre and I assure you that I will come back only after finishing the task I am given."

Parrikar had served as the chief minister of Goa before becoming the defense minister, a post he took up on the request of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Endit
