Vietnam wins 3 Olympic weightlifting berths

Xinhua, November 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

Vietnam has secured three weightlifting berths to the Rio Games in 2016, the Vietnam Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Federation said on Monday.

This is the first time Vietnam has obtained three berths in a single sport for an Olympic Games.

At the 2015 World Weightlifting Championships just concluded in the United States, Vietnamese Thach Kim Tuan bagged home a bronze in the men's 56kg category.

Tuan and his compatriots, Tran Le Quoc Toan and Nguyen Tran Anh Tuan are most likely to be sent to Rio Games, said the federation.

Winning a silver at Beijing Games in 2008, Tuan is the only Vietnamese weightlifter to grab an Olympic medal.

Vietnam has so far officially won six berths to Rio Games. Besides the three weightlifting ones, one berth is for swimming (secured by Nguyen Thi Anh Vien) and two berths for shooting (gained by Hoang Xuan Vinh and Tran Quoc Cuong).  Endi
