Newly promoted Darmstadt held Cologne to a goalless draw at the opener of the 14th round in Bundesliga on Friday.
Darmstadt wait for their first win since five games whereas Cologne reaped their second draw in row following an unspectacular goalless draw.
The hosts dictated the pace in the opening period yet Jan Rosenthal failed to made use of promising chance at the 8th minute. As the match progressed, Cologne gained a foothold into the game but neither Marcel Risse nor Matthias Lehmann were able to overcome Darmstadt's goalkeeper Christian Mathenia.
Darmstadt defended deep and kept Cologne on the distance but nevertheless the "Lilien" remained dangerous on counter attacks. Darmstadt's Jan Rosenthal headed over the bar before Cologne's Matthias Lehmann blocked Jerome Gondorf's clear-cut opportunity for the hosts.
After the restart, Cologne controlled the proceedings but failed to make the most of their chances. As a consequence, Cologne recorded their fifth draw of the season to climb on the 8th place whereas Darmstadt jump on the 14th place for the moment.
The following fixtures are scheduled for Saturday: front runners Bayern Munich host Hertha Berlin, runner up Dortmund face Stuttgart, Bremen see Hamburg for the Northern derby, Hannover clash with newly promoted Ingolstadt, bottom side Hoffenheim encounter Monchengladbach and Mainz visit Frankfurt.
