1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares close higher Wednesday

Chinese stocks extended gains on Wednesday as the ChiNext Index hit its highest peak since July 27.

The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, climbed 2.89 percent to close at 2,897.57 points, a new high since the market rout months ago.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index went up 0.88 percent to close at 3,647.93 points. The smaller Shenzhen index gained 1.56 percent to close at 12,893.23.

Total turnover on the two bourses stood at 1.02 trillion yuan (159.7billion U.S. dollars) from 858.6 billion yuan the previous trading day.

The two bourses fluctuated and were in negative territory in the morning but managed to close higher in the afternoon.

A total of 140 stocks on the two bourses rose by the 10-percent daily limit on Wednesday.

Internet financing had a strong performance with 13 shares hitting the daily limit, including Hithink RoyalFlush Information Network and Zhejiang Netsun Corporation.

Domestic software, health care and recently listed companies also led the gains.

Brokerages extended their momentum, with their sub-index up 0.72 percent. Guoyuan Securities Company surged 4.13 percent to 26.22 yuan per share. China Merchants Securities rose by 1.51 percent to 22.85 yuan per share. Endi
