1st LD: Preliminary reports show one Russian pilot dead; Rescue operation still underway

A Russian senior military official on Tuesday said preliminary reports showed one pilot was killed in midair by ground fire after ejection from a Russian Su-24 warplane, which was shot down in Syria earlier in the day by Turkey over alleged airspace violation.

Sergei Rutskoy, chief of the Russian General Staff Main Operations Directorate, also confirmed that one Russian marine was killed during the rescue operation after coming under attack, Tass news agency reported. Endit
