Each refugee costs Slovenia 40 euros per day: Finance Minister

Xinhua, November 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

Finance Minister Dusan Mramor on Tuesday claimed each transit refugee or migrant costs the nation slightly over 40 euros (42.6 U.S. dollars) per day, adding Slovenia has spent 8.7 million euros on managing the refugee crisis plus 2.5 million euros on train and bus transport until Nov. 15.

Mramor said the costs covered the reception, accommodation, food and lease of tents and toilets for the 217,000 migrants that crossed into Slovenia, according to Slovenian Press Agency.

The figure will be higher once costs incurred by local communities are taken into account, Mramor said, adding the state would compensate municipalities for all eligible costs.

The total number of transit refugees coming to Slovenia since mid-October exceeded 260,720. More than 3,000 refugees were in the various refugee centers across the country Tuesday, according to police estimates. Enditem
