Czech President Zeman condemns downing of Russian plane

Xinhua, November 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

Czech President Milos Zeman on Tuesday condemned the downing of a Russian warplane by Turkey near the Syrian border, saying the event would worsen the atmosphere in the area.

Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka, who is visiting China at present, described the incident as extremely dangerous, Czech News Agency CTK reported.

Sobotka said in a statement that Tuesday's unfortunate and extremely dangerous incident in Syria showed there are too many different interests in this region and current efforts for international coordination have done little about it.

He added the downing of the Russian aircraft is a very negative sign for further talks to end the Syrian conflict.

Czech Foreign Minister Lubomir Zaoralek said the incident showed the international community must come to the table and reach agreement, else risk playing into the hands of terrorists. Enditem
