Singapore's NTU tops QS young university rankings for 2nd consecutive year

Xinhua, November 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

Nanyang Technological University (NTU) has topped this year's Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) rankings of the world's young universities for the second consecutive year, said NTU in a press release on Tuesday.

The QS list highlights the world's top 50 universities established in the last 50 years based on the highest-performing young institutions in the QS World University Rankings.

NTU said it has also widened its lead over second-placed Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in the ranking.

In the QS Top 50, NTU has an overall score of 93.9 compared to HKUST's 88 points. In comparison, NTU overtook HKUST by just 0.7 points, with a score of 84 points last year.

NTU President Professor Bertil Andersson said the achievement is a tribute to the quality of the faculty, staff and students and shows that being a young university should not be a hindrance in making an impact on a global scale.

"The latest rankings also demonstrate the determination of Asia's young universities which are at the top of the game with their strong drive for excellence," he added.

The top six universities in this league table are all from Asia. NTU is the only one from Singapore, while China's Hong Kong has three universities and South Korea has two universities within this year's top 10. Enditem
