Tokyo stocks retreat in morning as yen rises, lack of buying cues

Xinhua, November 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

Tokyo stocks edged lower Tuesday as a comparatively strong yen versus the U.S. dollar made exporter-linked issues an unattractive proposition, while a lack of fresh buying incentives did little to spur buying by the break.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged down 16.30 points, or 0.08 percent, from last Friday to close the morning at 19,863.51, while the broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange shed 2.63 points, or 0.16 percent, to finish the morning at 1,600.55. Markets here were closed on Monday for a national holiday.
