Myanmar military seeks parliament approval to launch cooperation with Israel

Myanmar's Defense Ministry is seeking approval of the Union Parliament to launch military cooperation with Israel, an official report said Tuesday.

The ministry is intending to sign a memorandum of understanding with Israel on military cooperation in the defense sector and an agreement on the protection of secret information between the two countries, Deputy Minister of Defense Commodore Aung Thaw told the parliament, citing the benefits of the signing.

The MoU will cover military training, development of defense and security policies, legal matters in the sector, information sharing, humanitarian and relief operations, military education in economics, science and technology and military medical science, the deputy minister said.

The matter will be debated in the next parliament session, the report added.

The 13th session of Myanmar's two-House Union Parliament resumed in Nay Pyi Taw on Nov. 16, a week after the end of the country's Nov. 8 general election. Endit
