Indian PM has over 16 million followers on Twitter

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not only popular in the country, but also on social media -- he has now over 16 million followers on Twitter.

In fact, Modi's follower base on the micro-blogging site was more than 15 million in September and in the past two months, he has got a million more followers.

"In a span of two months, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Twitter account gets an addition of another million followers, taking the total follower count to 16.1 million," Twitter said.

Modi is currently the most followed Indian politician on Twitter, and the second most followed politician in the world, after U.S. President Barack Obama who has 66.1 million followers.

The Indian prime minister used Twitter to woo young voters before last year's general elections and now he stays connected with the Indians through the social media site.

He has used Twitter for development campaigns like #MakeInIndia, #SwachBharat, #MannKiBaat and #SefieWithDaughter. Endit
