5 Syrian men travelling with fake Greek passports detained in Honduras

Xinhua, November 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

Five Syrian men, travelling under false Greek identities, were arrested in Honduras on Wednesday after being detected at Tegucicalpa's airport, according to Anibal Baca, spokesman for Honduras' police force.

In a communique, Baca said that the Syrians had been travelling from El Salvador and were seeking to journey on to the United States. However, local forces were on alert since another Syrian national was arrested in November for travelling with a false passport.

The passports identified the men under the false identities of Greek citizens.

Baca added that the Honduran police believed the passports were stolen in Greece.

In 2014, Honduras detained 10,356 foreign nationals passing through the country illegally. So far this year, it has detained over 16,000 immigrants, from Somalia, Ghana, Iran, Nepal, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Cameroon, Senegal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Guinea and Latin American countries. Endit
