Northwestern China's Shaanxi Province was chosen by General Administration of Sport of China on Wednesday to host the 14th National Games in 2021.
Shaanxi was the only candidate province for the 2021 National Games, the administration said. Its successful bid means it had won the one-horse race.
Before 2001, the National Games had been held in turn among three metropolises of Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
Since the bidding institution changed in early 21st century, it is rare to have only one candidate bidding for the Games as the competition has always been fierce with at least two candidate provinces.
Eastern China's Jiangsu, Shandong and northeastern Liaoning Provinces had bid and hosted the 10th to 12th National Games respectively.
Shaanxi had been one of the candidates for the 13th Games in 2017, which was finally held in Tianjin, the largest coastal city in northern China. Endit
