EU should improve exchange of information to tackle terrorism: Austrian official

Xinhua, November 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

Austrian Interior Minister Johanna Mikl-Leitner here on Wednesday said the secret services of European Union (EU) member states should improve the exchange of information among them in order to better deal with terrorism.

At the European level, the coordination with regard to the criminal police is very good, but there is a problem in the exchange of information on jihadists, Mikl-Leitner said at a press conference.

This information was mostly gathered by the secret services of the EU member states, and they of course did not share it, despite this data being important, she said.

"It is necessary to convince the secret services that this data should be provided in order to deal with terrorists," Mikl-Leitner said.

Data protection is very important, "but data protection should not mean protection of perpetrators," she added. Endit
