Chinese ambassador to Ghana awards 28 brilliant students

Chinese Ambassador to Ghana Sun Baohong on Wednesday presented awards to 28 students who excelled in learning Chinese language and culture at the University of Ghana in Accra.
The Chinese ambassador's award to brilliant students is a means of encouraging more Ghanaian students to learn Chinese, know more about Chinese culture and to participate in non-governmental economic and cultural exchanges between China and Ghana.
Since the inception of the award four years ago, more than 60 students in the University of Ghana have been honored, serving strong inspiration to other students and has resulted in more students choosing to Chinese language.
Sun encouraged the students to overcome difficulties and keep studying Chinese in an earnest manner.
"By doing so you will make great contribution to the economic transformation and national rejuvenation of both China and Ghana," she said.
The Pro-Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs of the University of Ghana Prof. Samuel Kwame Offei congratulated the recipients and pray the award spur them to greater heights.
The Chinese Coordinator at the University Dr Winnand Kofi Adzanku paid homage to former Chinese Ambassador Gong Jianzhong for instituting the award scheme and Sun Baohong for sustaining and maintaining the program.
A representative of the awardees Maame Ekua Ampem said the array of opportunities presented to them motives them to persist and strive to improve themselves in the language.
"We hope to learn good Chinese, to gain in-depth understanding of Chinese culture and to take up various roles in promoting the China-Ghana culture, economic, science and technology exchanges and cooperation," she said.
Each of the awardees received a certificate and cash prize, ranging from 300 to 600 U.S. dollars for the BA students and a total of 6,000 cedis or 1,578 dollars for the Confucius Institute pupils. Endit
