Toyota to recall 440,000 cars over transmission, fuel system defects

Xinhua, November 18, 2015 Adjust font size:

Toyota Motor Corp. is to recall a total of 443,460 cars for free repair due to defects that could cause cars to stop or leak fuel, local media reported on Wednesday.

The company has notified the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of the recall on Wednesday, which involves 10 models of vehicles manufactured between September 2006 and August 2013, said the report.

Among them, the Corolla Fielder and six other models manufactured between September 2006 and October 2008, which total 346,199 units, are to be recalled because a rubber part in the transmission could be damaged due to a design error.

The Sai and the HS250h hybrid vehicle of the luxury Lexus brand, manufactured between June 2009 and August 2013 and totaling 94,194 units, are subject to the recall due to problems with the fuel pump.

Moreover, a total of 3,067 units of the Isis minivan, produced between May and September of 2009, are to be recalled because of problems with the attachment of pipe parts which could cause leak of fuel.

No injuries related to the defects have been reported, although cases of acceleration and other problems have been confirmed.

As Japan's largest automaker, Toyota Motor Corporation has been embroiled in a number of quality scandals in recent years. It announced just last month a recall of 6.5 million vehicles worldwide for a defective power window switch that can overheat, melt and lead to fires. Endit
