12 killed in northern Afghan clash

Xinhua, November 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

Up to 10 militants and two police personnel were killed in a clash in Afghanistan's northern province of Kunduz on Tuesday, an official said.

"The clash erupted in outer sides of Dasht-e-Archi district early Tuesday morning after militants attacked a security forces' unit conducting patrol at the area. The skirmish caused 10 militants and two local policemen killed," the district governor, Sahd-u-din Sahdi, told Xinhua.

About 15 militants and two police were also wounded during the clash, the governor said, adding that the district has been the scene of clashes over the past month as the security forces were trying to clear the area from Taliban militants.

The Taliban has intensified attacks recently as the militant group tries to take territory and consolidate its positions ahead of winter in the country. Endit
