Cuba expected to see record-high foreign tourists this year

Xinhua, November 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

Cuba is expected to see a record high of foreign visitors this year as 3 million people have already visited the island nation so far, according to official figures.

By the end of this year, the total number of foreign visitors is set to break the record in 2014, when 3 million and 2,745 foreigners visited.

Canada remains the leading source country of tourists to Cuba, with more than 1.11 million visitors, followed by the European countries of Germany, England, France and Spain, said the Tourism Ministry on Monday.

At the same time, the country saw an increase of 20 percent in the number of visitors from Latin America, it said.

"The promising situation is due to Cuba's dedication to improve the quality of products and services, supported by the government's decision to promote the tourism industry," according to the ministry.

Tourism is Cuba's second-largest earner of foreign exchange, reaping over 2.6 billion U.S. dollars a year. Endi
