Honduran media not impressed with World Cup Qualifier opening match

Xinhua, November 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

Honduras' media think the national soccer team got off to a bad start on the way to the World Cup Russia 2018 as they lost 1-0 to Canada on Friday in the North, Central America and Caribbean Qualifiers.

"Honduras kicked off road to Russia 2018 with the left foot," read local daily La Tribuna's headline on Saturday, adding that the team lacked order, creativity and aggression when facing the Canadian side who also did not put on a good performance.

Local daily La Prensa's headline read "Painful fall in Vancouver," while El Heraldo highlighted that the "Honduran national team lost by the minimum on their visit to Canada."

Diario Deportivo Diez said "Canada baptizes and beats Honduras at the start of the Qualifiers."

Mexico will travel and face Honduras on Tuesday in San Pedro Sula for the second match of the Qualifiers. The two American teams form part of the Qualifiers' Group A along with El Salvador and Canada.

El Salvador lost 3-0 on Friday to hosts Mexico in their first match of the group.

Honduras qualified for it's first World Cup back in Spain 1982 and then again in South Africa 2010 and Brazil 2014.  Endi
