Algeria beefs up security around French interests

Xinhua, November 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

Algeria stepped up security around French diplomatic facilities and companies on Saturday in the wake of the deadly bombings and shootings that hit Paris on Friday night.

A greater presence of armed security elements appeared around the French embassy in the suburbs of Hydra, in upper Algiers. French visa centers and educational institutions, including the French High School and the French Cultural Center in Algiers also saw security reinforcements around.

The same security beefing up was also noticed around some French companies based in Algiers.

These measures were taken by the Algerian authorities to anticipate any potential terror attack against French interests in Algeria.

At least 128 people were killed and 250 others injured, 99 in critical conditions, after a group of suicide bombers stormed simultaneously restaurants, coffees shops, a theater hall and a stadium in central Paris late on Friday, forcing France to declare a state of emergency across the country, the first such decision since 1945.
