Paris attacks indicates intelligence failure: Finnish official

A Finnish senior security official believed the happening of attacks in Paris that left at least 120 dead and 200 wounded on Friday were partially a result of a failure of intelligence work.

Paivi Nerg, top civil servant of the Finnish Interior Ministry, said on national broadcaster Yle on Saturday that the security personnel somewhere has not been "ahead of the criminals, but in the wake of them".

She pointed out that prophylactic work against terrorism is being carried out world-wide and has been successful, referring to the arrests made in Italy and elsewhere in Europe on Thursday.

"But in this case prophylactic operations did not work and now it is important to pause to consider what the overall background was and how these events happened. And that will contribute to future preventative work."

Finnish Interior Minister Petteri said on Saturday that this Nordic country will raise the degree of terrorism preparedness following the Paris attacks. Endit
